Concentrated Study of
Eight Extraordinary Channels
Do you use any of the channel systems outside the primary channels?
In order to understand acupuncture it is imperative that we study ALL of the channels (sinew, luo, divergent and eight extraordinary). This greatly expands our capacity as practitioners to treat a wider range of conditions and to address deeper levels of disease.
Using the WHOLE system of acupuncture gives us the ability to treat the WHOLE person!
The course will be rooted in the classical texts, oral tradition and many years clinical experience using these channels
Dedicated 3-day weekend for a deep study of each of the Channel Systems will include time for clinical applications and skill development (featuring special needling techniques for each channel)
PLUS
In between weekends there will be dedicated online meetings for Q&A, Case Study, and mentorship!
This ongoing access to support in the study of these channels will allow you to integrate the weekend study directly into your clinical practice
1 whole year of dedicated support for your development as a practitioner

WEEKEND 1: THE SINEW CHANNELS
經筋
Jing Jin
The Sinew Channels mediate our relationship to the external environment. These channels are the map of the Wei Qi terrain. They define our structural alignment and the most exterior boundaries of where and how we meet the world. The application of the Sinew Channels can be especially important and powerful for the treatment of pain, neuromuscular dysfunction, muscular-skeletal conditions, seasonal allergies, environmental sensitivities and many other conditions involving the Wei Qi.
The class provides a thorough theoretical understanding of the Sinew Channels/Jin Jing: their pathways, points, confluences and functions. Their relationships to the other channel systems and role in the overall dynamic of the body's energies will be made clear. Clinical techniques will be demonstrated: needling techniques specific to the Sinew Channels, gua sha, and cupping. The major Sinew Releases of the neck and pelvis will also be taught. Participants will gain a comprehensive framework for diagnosing and treating using the Sinew Channels.
WEEKEND 2: LUO VESSELS
絡脈
Luo Mai
The Luo Vessels are a powerful means to treat the shen and the emotions. The Luo Vessels give direct access to Blood, the substance that carries shen and provides the matrix for our conscious, emotional life. Yet these channels remain largely unknown or underutilized in most acupuncture practices. Using the Luo Vessels can be especially important for the treatment of psychological and emotional conditions, trauma, circulatory and cardiac conditions, digestive disorders and any imbalance involving the Blood and Ying Qi.
This class will go beyond the common understanding of the Luo Vessels by expanding its theory into a framework for human psycho-social development. The application of The Luo Vessels in true preventative care is described, providing a critical means for maintaining and releasing latent pathogenic factors.
WEEKEND 3: CHANNEL DIVERGENCES
經別
Jing Bie
The Channel Divergences are a powerful meridian system able to treat chronic degenerative disease. These channels are perhaps the most mysterious and least understood. However, these underutilized channels can offer strategies to empower practitioners to treat longstanding and complex conditions with increased confidence.
This course is a deep exploration of the relationship between the Wei/Defensive Qi and Yuan/Source Qi in the context of the channel systems. The class examines our ability to adapt to toxic environments and the mechanisms by which we clear or maintain latent pathogens in our bodies. The Channel Divergences offer key insights into the concept of immunity. These channels can be used to treat a very wide range of conditions from chronic pain to complicated autoimmune disease.
Divergences' theory: pathways, points, functions and indications. Their relationships to the other channel systems and role in the overall dynamic of the body's energies will be made clear. The class includes clinical applications and needling technique demonstrations. Students will leave with multiple strategies for treating some of their most challenging patients.
WEEKEND 4: EIGHT EXTRAORDINARY VESSELS
奇經八脈
Qi Jing Ba Mai
The Eight Extraordinary Vessels represent the deepest constitutional layer of a human being. Yet these most fundamental channels are often only briefly examined in acupuncture schools and modern textbooks. This class will cover each of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, examining in depth the classical teachings, physiology, pathology and clinical applications. The class will also explore how the Eight Extraordinary Vessels inform the basic transitions and transformations of the human life cycle.

“Evan has an amazing talent to assimilate, organize, and make clinically relevant a vast amount of complex Chinese Medicine material collected through many years of his extensive studying with Jeffrey Yuen. I greatly enjoy Evan’s presentation style as his lectures are not only rich in content but are also engaging and full of useful clinical examples. Evan’s teachings has deepened my understanding of Chinese Medicine as a whole and helped me become a much more confident and successful practitioner of both Chinese herbology and acupuncture.”
-Olga Magas, L.Ac.
“Evan is an amazing teacher. I studied with him for two years in an accredited Chinese herb program. Herbs are alchemy and Evan himself is. We were learning so much about these precious plants and little did we know we were going through our own transformation. Evan knew how to guide us on this path and bring us back if things seemed overwhelming. He taught us to know what is really important. And that is, helping our patient to heal. I learned more than I ever knew I was learning. I design custom formulas in my clinic regularly. Things just come to me because of the unique way Evan presented them. I recently took his Luo Vessels class and again it was a deep learning being in his presence. I would not miss an opportunity to study with him.
-Anne C. Crowley, L.Ac. LaPlata,
Evan Rabinowitz is one of those rare teachers who can bring incredibly dense subject matter to life. His teaching style is extremely organized and richly textured. I appreciated how skillfully he designed a curriculum rooted in the classics, yet applicable to the modern clinic. While I learned practical applications of herbs and formulas, Evan also taught me to cultivate my ability to observe resonance and nuances in prescribing. He taught us to think in terms of the energetics of herbs and formulas rather than just the mechanics of them. I am so grateful for my herbal studies with Evan, it has truly deepened my understanding and love of Chinese Medicine as a whole.
-Becky Thoroughgood, L.Ac.
Harrisburg, PA
“Learning Chinese herbal medicine with Evan has been nothing less than profound and ripe with the depth and richness inherent in both the philosophy and practice of Chinese medicine. His transmission of the teachings are steeped in both historical context, relevance and homage to the great scholars and masters from which they originated. If you are looking to deepen or reawaken your knowledge and love of Chinese medicine, I highly recommend you take this program. You will thank me afterwards.”
-Bart Beckerman, L.Ac.
“It’s said great leaders and teachers point not to themselves but to the greater source that inspires them, and with humility. I say this is true of Evan’s teaching in Chinese Medicine. I’ve studied herbs, pulse diagnosis and many other aspects of Chinese Medicine with Evan since 2011 through the various programs he has offered at MUIH and Yao Shan Center in Washington, DC. His teaching style truly integrates mind, body, spirit as One and in relationship with our natural world as our greater teacher and source. His keen observational skills also makes him aware of each student in the class as an essential participant within our larger order. No one gets left behind and we live it 3D and multi-dimensionally with Evan! With kindness and good humor he lays the foundations, conveys this essential knowledge, teaching sensory awareness's and this great tradition for human care, as he has come to know it. His expertise and teaching style gives opportunity for our confidence to grow for the sake of our unique CM practices and all the connected relationships we have beyond the classroom, within the larger realm(s), so we may pass it forward too. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to listen and learn with Evan through the years.”
